Quick Guide for Good Sleep During Allergy Season

Quick Guide for Good Sleep During Allergy Season

In the U.S., an estimated 40-60 million people experience disruptive sleep due to the increased pollen count around this time of year.

Runny and stuffy noses. Itchy eyes. Sneezing. Sinuses… HELL! Alas, here’s how to improve your sleep this allergy season.

There’s an app for that…

You can download apps on your smartphone that include allergy and weather forecasts, so you can plan your schedule accordingly.

You might also want to buy a dust sensor or an air quality monitor. If these devices determine that your air quality is indeed a problem, you can consider buying an air purifier.

Check the medicine cabinet?

Allergy medications consist of pills, nasal sprays, eye drops, and films to place under the tongue. If asthma is also an issue, you can use inhalers to treat your conditions.

Since several allergy medications make people drowsy, using these medications can provide the double benefit of treating allergies and promoting sleep.

Throw your mattress out

Changing your sleep environment can help end your suffering and restlessness. You might want to consider investing in an anti-allergenic mattress.

Additionally – cleaning your mattress, bedding, and other materials/surfaces in the bedroom can also reduce or eliminate allergens.

Showering before bed and doing laundry frequently are other ways to eliminate pollen.

Trying some of these tips might help you figure out what is or isn’t helping with your allergies, but we all know anything’s worth a shot when you can’t sleep because you can’t breathe out of your nose.
